Private Jet Industry Continues to Grow Despite Troubled Economy

While the struggling economy seems to have impacted nearly every global industry, the demand for private jets seems to be thriving more than ever. “We believe that if you can afford to spend $62 million (current list price for the A318 Elite) or more on an aircraft, then you are probably a billionaire, or well on the way to becoming one. And if you are billionaire, then you are likely to go on buying,” explained David Velupillai, product marketing director of executive and private aviation for Airbus. “Manufacturers of smaller business jets, which sell for less money, and to millionaires rather than billionaires, are more likely to be affected by the global economic turndown.” This theory makes sense and is backed by statistics. Lufthansa Technik Chairman August Wilhelm Henningsen stated that LHT is currently taking slot reservations for 2012-2018 due to high demand and Walter Heerdt, head of marketing and sales reported that despite the economic slump, LHT has not had any narrow body or wide body cancellations to date. The company currently has three committed projects under way and another two to three in the works.

WOW can’t imagine having to wait till 2012 or 2018 when you can get a airframe today and put in an interior by the same designers for less than half the cost.
