For Sale: Slightly Used Private Plane
By Christina Bohnstengel

When the Royal Bank of Scotland welcomed new chief executive Stephen Hester last October, they may not have realized that they would be saying goodbye to their corporate jet. A bank spokeswoman would not provide pricing details, but it can be estimated that the cost is either extremely overinflated, or available at a bargain basement price.
With the number of business jets for sale tripling in only four months, analysts have identified two opposing pricing trends. Jet Republic CEO Jonathan Breeze believes that there are several corporate jets currently listed on the market for outrageous asking prices, just as a means to mollify the fears of shareholders or in an effort to garner positive press.
Alternatively, many companies and individuals who have not been able to avoid economic hits are looking to beef up their bank accounts with the sale of their private plane. They are in a “need-cash-now” situation and are willing to list their private plane at any price in order to float their financial situation until the tides turn for the western economy.
