Repo Man

By Allison Medoff

With a financial crisis on our hands, Repo Man is here to save the day.

Once a sky filled with soaring private jets is now a ground scattered with unused and unpaid airplanes.  Enter, Nick Popovich, Repo Man.  His firm has the job of sweeping up aircrafts that individuals and companies can no longer afford.  Apparently this is the market to be in, with clients such as Citigroup, Transamerica and Credit Suisse Group.

Mostly corporate clientele, with private-jet owners having the financial cushion to sell their aircraft at a bargain price if need be. Popovich did recently go on a hunt for a private jet owned by two accused Ponzi scheme operators.  “Those guys are a real piece of work.  We’ve had to fly halfway around the world just to find a plane we were told would be in Dallas,” says Mr. Popovich.  No job too big or small for this man.

More jet repos are likely to be popping up throughout the world with many companies and individuals alike having financed their planes with debt.  Until the financial crisis comes to end, Mr. Popovich will continue to fly over the world as Repo Man.
