What “8 seats” actually means on a charter
Searchers type 8 seat private jet when they have a fixed headcount: a family of eight, a board group, a wedding party, or a team that refuses to split. Manufacturers publish maximum occupants or maximum passengers; charter comfort is different.
Use three checks on every quote:
- 1. Certified passenger seats for takeoff and landing — lounge divans and belted lav seats may count toward a brochure maximum but feel different in practice.
- 2. Bags and golf / ski gear — eight adults with roll-aboards fill light-jet baggage bays faster than a midsize or super-midsize hold.
- 3. Stage length — eight people Miami–New York is a different airplane problem than eight people Miami–Los Angeles.
Haute Jets will show you the seat map and baggage limits for the actual aircraft, not a generic category brochure.
Aircraft that seat around eight: comparison table
Figures below are from manufacturer materials only (product cards / brochures). Cabins are custom; confirm certified seats and range for your payload on the quote. Ranges use each maker’s published mission assumptions (passenger count and reserves differ by source — see footnotes in Sources).
| Aircraft | Class | Seats (manufacturer) | Cabin height | Published range | Typical 8-seat use |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Embraer Phenom 300E | Light | Crew + standard 6 passengers; max 9–10 passengers (Embraer) | 4 ft 11 in (1.50 m) | 2,010 nm (LRC, 5 occupants, NBAA IFR) | Eight works on shorter hops when the layout and bags allow; dense for coast-to-coast |
| Cessna Citation Latitude | Midsize | Up to 9 passenger seats / max passengers context on Textron card | 72 in (6 ft / 1.83 m) flat-floor | 2,700 nm (4-passenger, HSC, NBAA IFR) | Strong “eight with room” midsize for Miami–Northeast and similar |
| Embraer Praetor 500 | Midsize | Standard 7; maximum 9 passengers (Embraer) | 6 ft flat-floor (Embraer “six-foot-tall” cabin) | 3,340 nm (LRC, 4 passengers, NBAA IFR) | Eight in a max layout; excellent when you need midsize range with a stand-up cabin |
| Bombardier Challenger 3500 | Super-midsize | Up to 10 passengers | 6 ft 0 in (1.83 m) | 3,400 nm (M 0.77, 4 pax / 2 crew, NBAA IFR) | Eight flies with club space left over; common step-up for bags and longer legs |
| Gulfstream G280 | Super-midsize | 8–10 passengers (Gulfstream brochure) | 6 ft 3 in (1.91 m) | 3,400 nm (M 0.80, 4 pax / 2 crew, NBAA IFR) | Eight is a natural Gulfstream club cabin; longer missions with comfort |
| Cessna Citation Longitude | Super-midsize | Max 12 passengers (Textron product card) | 72 in (6 ft / 1.83 m) | 3,500 nm (4-passenger, M 0.80, NBAA IFR) | Eight is spacious; use when you want super-midsize range and a quiet cabin |
Seating varies by tail number. “Comfortable for eight” is not the same as “certified for eight.” Confirm takeoff/landing seats, lav configuration, and baggage on the quote.
How to read the table for a group of eight
Light jets can seat eight on some layouts but get tight with bags on long stages. Midsize (Latitude, Praetor 500) is where most “eight comfortably” Miami–Northeast trips land. Super-midsize is the step-up for headroom, galley, bags, or nonstop range a light cabin cannot protect at eight passengers.
Light jets: when eight fits — and when it does not
Embraer Phenom 300E
Embraer’s Phenom 300E brochure lists 1–2 crew + 6 standard passengers, max 9–10 passengers, cabin height 4 ft 11 in, and 2,010 nm at LRC with five occupants (NBAA IFR). Divan layouts raise the max; they do not guarantee comfort for eight adults over four hours. Best for shorter Southeast/East Coast hops with a light bag plan — otherwise step to midsize.
Other light jets you may see quoted
Textron’s Citation CJ4 Gen2 product card lists up to 11 occupants and 2,165 nm max range (ferry assumptions on the card); launch materials also cite seating for up to ten passengers. Cabin height is not on that product card, so it is omitted from the table — request the OEM cabin drawing on any CJ4 quote instead of third-party spec sheets.
Midsize: the usual answer for eight
Cessna Citation Latitude
Textron’s Citation Latitude product card highlights a flat-floor 72 in cabin, configurations including nine passenger seats, and 2,700 nm four-passenger range (HSC, NBAA IFR). Eight passengers usually reduce range versus that brochure figure — the quote shows fuel plan and any tech stop. A clean “eight with stand-up cabin” answer for Miami–Northeast and similar missions.
Embraer Praetor 500
Embraer’s Praetor 500 materials list standard 7 / max 9 passengers, a six-foot-tall flat-floor cabin, and 3,340 nm with four passengers (LRC, NBAA IFR). Some layouts max at 8 without the full optional divan package. Choose when eight need midsize comfort plus more range or hotter/higher runway flexibility.
Super-midsize: eight with space to spare
Bombardier Challenger 3500
Bombardier’s Challenger 3500 brochure: up to 10 passengers, cabin 6 ft 0 in high × 7 ft 2 in wide × 25 ft 2 in long, range 3,400 nm (NBAA IFR, M 0.77, 4 pax / 2 crew). Eight usually means a more open club cabin.
Gulfstream G280
Gulfstream’s G280 brochure: 8–10 passengers, cabin height 6 ft 3 in, range 3,400 nm (M 0.80, 4 pax / 2 crew, NBAA IFR).
Cessna Citation Longitude
Textron’s Longitude product card: max 12 passengers, cabin height 72 in, cabin length 25 ft 2 in, range 3,500 nm (4 pax, M 0.80, NBAA IFR). Eight in a Longitude is a comfort play, not a capacity stretch — use when the group wants galley space, longer nonstops, or will not accept a light-jet aisle.
When to charter an 8-seat jet
Family and multi-gen trips, board teams, weddings, small sports/entertainment pods, and Bahamas / Caribbean day trips from South Florida are the usual reasons. Measure gear, not just headcount. Step up a size when bags exceed a light-jet bay, the stage is long (ask for payload-range, not brochure range at four passengers), someone needs a berth, pets consume floor space, or you want two cabin zones.
Group-of-eight booking tips
Lock exact headcount and ages early; send bag dimensions (not “eight bags”); ask for certified takeoff/landing seats on the tail; compare midsize vs super-midsize on long days; and name the Miami-area airport closest to the hotel (OPF, MIA, FLL, FXE, or TMB). International legs need passport timing and CBP hours — especially into Opa-locka.
Looking to buy instead of charter?
Some 8 seat private jet searches are ownership searches. Charter fits occasional or changing trips; ownership fits high annual hours and cabin control. Haute Jets arranges charter only. Buyer overview: best private airplanes to buy. For a trip, request a charter quote.

FAQ
What private jet seats 8 people?
Many light, midsize, and super-midsize jets can be configured around eight seats. Examples with manufacturer-published seating that covers eight include the Phenom 300E (max 9–10 passengers), Citation Latitude (up to nine passenger seats), Praetor 500 (max 9), Challenger 3500 (up to 10), G280 (8–10), and Citation Longitude (max 12). Confirm the seat map on the specific aircraft.
Is an 8-seat light jet comfortable for adults?
Sometimes, on shorter flights with light bags. Embraer’s Phenom 300E cabin height is 4 ft 11 in; eight adults for a long stage often prefer a midsize flat-floor cabin such as the Citation Latitude (72 in) or Praetor 500 (6 ft).
What is the best private jet for 8 passengers Miami to New York?
Often a midsize such as a Citation Latitude or Praetor 500, or a super-midsize when bags or schedule demand it. The “best” answer is the specific tail that meets seats, bags, and timing on your dates — request a quote for current options.
Do 8-seat jets have stand-up cabins?
Midsize and super-midsize models in the table (Latitude, Praetor 500, Challenger 3500, G280, Longitude) publish cabin heights of about 6 ft or more. Light jets such as the Phenom 300E are lower (4 ft 11 in per Embraer).
