The Gulfstream G800 and the Bombardier Global 8000 are the two newest flagship business jets, and the two longest-range business jets in service. The G800 entered service in August 2025 and the Global 8000 in December 2025. On paper they look almost identical: about 8,000 nautical miles of range, up to 19 passengers and a 51,000 ft ceiling. The differences are in speed, cabin length and cabin altitude. This review compares them side by side using each manufacturer's published specifications, and explains what matters if you are chartering one.

Sources: Gulfstream and General Dynamics for the G800; Bombardier for the Global 8000. G800 cabin width and height from Corporate Jet Investor. Range figures are theoretical; real range depends on winds, routing, load and options.
Range: the G800 goes farther on paper
Gulfstream lists the G800 at 8,200 nm at Mach 0.85, which is 200 nm more than it first projected. Bombardier lists the Global 8000 at 8,000 nm at the same speed, with the same eight passengers and four crew. That 200 nm gap is about 2.5%. On most trips you will not notice it, but it can matter on the very longest routes.
Gulfstream also publishes how far the G800 flies at higher speeds: 7,000 nm at Mach 0.90 and 8,000 nm at Mach 0.87. Bombardier does not publish a comparable high-speed range figure for the Global 8000 on its spec sheet, so a like-for-like comparison at high speed is not possible from public data.
Speed: the Global 8000 is faster
Bombardier calls the Global 8000 the fastest civilian aircraft since Concorde, with a top speed of Mach 0.95 and an ultra-high-speed cruise of Mach 0.92. The G800's maximum operating speed is Mach 0.935. In practice, both jets fly most long trips at about Mach 0.85 to 0.90. The Global 8000's extra speed is most useful when time matters more than reaching the absolute limit of range.
Cabin: longer in the Global 8000, slightly wider in the G800
This is the biggest practical difference. Bombardier lists the Global 8000 cabin at 54 ft 5 in long, measured from the cockpit divider to the rear of the cabin without the baggage compartment. The G800 cabin is 46 ft 10 in long, also excluding baggage. That gives the Global 8000 about 7 ft 7 in more cabin length.
The G800's cabin is slightly wider and taller (8 ft 2 in by 6 ft 3 in versus 8 ft 0 in by 6 ft 2 in). Most passengers will not feel a one- or two-inch difference. They will notice the extra length, which in the Global 8000 goes into four full living spaces.
- Global 8000: Bombardier describes four true living spaces: a club suite, a conference suite, an entertainment suite and a principal suite with a full-size bed and an en suite lavatory with an available stand-up shower. Its standard layout also shows a private crew suite. Other features include Nuage seats with a zero-gravity position, the Pũr Air system with a HEPA filter and Soleil circadian lighting.
- G800: Gulfstream offers up to four living areas, or three plus a dedicated crew rest compartment. The cabin has 16 Panoramic Oval Windows, 100% fresh air renewed every two to three minutes, plasma ionization air purification and available circadian lighting.
For overnight trips, ask how many passengers can sleep flat on the specific aircraft. Layouts vary a lot between owners.
Cabin altitude: both are very low
A lower cabin altitude means more oxygen and, for many passengers, less fatigue after a long flight. At 41,000 ft, Bombardier publishes 2,691 ft for the Global 8000 and Gulfstream publishes 2,840 ft for the G800 (the same figure as the G700). Both manufacturers say theirs is the lowest in the industry; Gulfstream's claim refers to cabin altitudes measured from 42,000 ft to 51,000 ft. The 149 ft difference at 41,000 ft is small. Either aircraft is an excellent choice for a 12- to 15-hour trip.
Runways and airports
Published takeoff distances are close: 5,812 ft for the G800 and 5,760 ft for the Global 8000, both at sea level, standard temperature and maximum takeoff weight. Bombardier says the Global 8000's wing, with leading-edge slats, lets it use up to 30% more airports than its closest rival. That is a manufacturer claim. For any specific trip, the operator checks runway length, elevation, temperature and load before confirming the aircraft can fly the route nonstop.
What 8,000 nm means on real routes
The great-circle distances below show where these jets fit. They do not include winds, routing or reserves, which can add hundreds of miles. Your operator confirms the flight plan for each trip.
| Route | Great-circle distance | On paper |
|---|---|---|
| Teterboro (TEB) to Hong Kong (HKG) | About 6,990 nm | Within both jets' published range |
| Van Nuys (VNY) to Singapore (SIN) | About 7,600 nm | Within both jets' published range; winds decide |
| London Luton (LTN) to Perth (PER) | About 7,830 nm | Close to both jets' limits |
| Teterboro (TEB) to Singapore (SIN) | About 8,270 nm | Beyond both jets' published range; plan a fuel stop |

Can you charter a G800 or Global 8000?
Yes, but expect limited availability. Both aircraft entered service recently, so far fewer are available for charter than older large-cabin jets. Ask early, especially for holiday dates. If neither is available for your dates, the closest large-cabin alternatives are the Gulfstream G700 and the Bombardier Global 7500. See our Global 7500 vs G700 comparison, the Global 7500 aircraft page and the G650ER aircraft page. For the bigger picture, read Gulfstream vs Bombardier.
Which should you charter?
- Choose the Global 8000 if you want the most cabin space, four separate living areas and the fastest cruise speeds. It suits groups and long overnight trips where people want room to spread out.
- Choose the G800 if the route is at the very edge of range, or if you prefer Gulfstream's cabin and its 16 large oval windows.
- Either works for most ultra-long-range trips, such as New York to Hong Kong or Los Angeles to Sydney, in typical conditions.
When we quote an ultra-long-range trip, we list the specific tail number, year of manufacture, operator safety ratings, cabin layout and Wi-Fi system so you can compare like for like.
How to compare two quotes
- Check the tail number and year. These are new aircraft, so ask whether you are getting a G800 or Global 8000 or a substitute.
- Ask about the layout. Number of living areas, divans, beds and whether there is a crew rest area.
- Confirm the operator's safety ratings. We work with Wyvern- and ARGUS-rated operators.
- Confirm Wi-Fi. Ask which system is installed and how it performs over oceans.
- Confirm the routing. Ask the operator whether the trip is planned nonstop, and what happens if winds require a fuel stop.
