Which airport should you fly into?
| Airport | Why choose it | Verified details |
|---|---|---|
| Miami-Opa Locka Executive (OPF) | The usual first choice for Miami Beach | A designated reliever to MIA with no landing fees and U.S. Customs on the airfield. Miami-Dade lists the drive to Miami Beach at about 30 minutes. FBOs include Atlantic Aviation, Fontainebleau Aviation, Jet Aviation and Signature Aviation. |
| Miami International private terminal (MIA) | Closest major airport to the Beach | Busy commercial field. Ask about handling and slot conditions when you request a quote. |
| Fort Lauderdale Executive (FXE) | Good if you are staying in Fort Lauderdale or north Miami-Dade | City-owned general aviation airport with four FBOs (Banyan, Signature, Atlantic, W Aviation), a 24-hour control tower, and a CBP facility open daily 8am–midnight. |
| Fort Lauderdale–Hollywood International (FLL) | A commercial-airport alternative | Ask about handling options when you request a quote. |
| Miami Executive (TMB) | Good for Coral Gables, south Miami and the Keys | Formerly Kendall-Tamiami. Signature TMB lists hours of 6am–9pm, and customs is a landing-rights facility that requires advance notice. |
| Palm Beach International (PBI) | Good if you are combining Palm Beach with the fair | FBOs include Atlantic Aviation, Jet Aviation and Signature (North and South). Expect a long drive to Miami Beach. |
Timing and logistics
- Book early. Fair week is one of South Florida's busiest weeks for private aviation. Requesting your quote in October or early November gives the most aircraft options.
- Hold your FBO preference. At OPF and FXE, your broker confirms ramp and handling with the FBO when the trip is booked.
- Plan ground time. The OPF to Miami Beach drive is about 30 minutes per Miami-Dade, longer in event traffic. Schedule arrivals around the 11am openings.
- Flying in from abroad? OPF and FXE both have on-field U.S. Customs. TMB customs needs advance notice.
- Watch for TFRs. FBOs at OPF advise that presidential TFRs are to be expected in South Florida. Your operator monitors NOTAMs.
- Choose the right cabin. A midsize jet works for a small group coming from the Northeast. For reference, the midsize Miami–New York round trip starts from $39,000 (Oct 2026). Other routes are priced by quote.
