Vail Mountain opens Friday, November 13, 2026, and Beaver Creek opens Wednesday, November 25, 2026. For private jet travelers, the practical gateway is Eagle County Regional Airport (EGE) in Gypsum—about a 35-minute drive to Vail Village and closer still to Beaver Creek—not Aspen. EGE’s 9,000 ft runway handles larger jets that Aspen’s 95 ft wingspan limit and curfew cannot, and Signature Aviation is the only FBO on the field. This guide covers EGE operations, Aspen and Rifle as alternates, winter timing around opening week and the holidays, and how to plan a quote without guessing at prices.
Haute Jets is a private jet charter broker, not an operator. We arrange flights with Wyvern- and ARGUS-rated FAA Part 135 operators, with access to 3,500+ vetted aircraft. No jet cards and no membership fees. Most quotes arrive within 60 minutes.

Beaver Creek’s Opening Week (November 25–29) includes the Welcome to Winter chairlift banner break, a Holiday Market on November 27–28, and the Tree Lighting & Ice Spectacular on November 28. If you want to ski opening day at Beaver Creek and avoid the densest commercial bank, fly into EGE on Tuesday the 24th or early on the 25th. Vail’s earlier November 13 open gives a two-week window before Thanksgiving when the mountain is up and holiday crowds have not yet peaked.
Eagle County Regional (EGE): the private jet airport for Vail
Eagle County Regional Airport sits four miles west of Eagle at 6,547 ft elevation. AirNav lists one main runway, 7/25, at 9,000 × 150 ft, asphalt and grooved, with high-intensity lights and an ILS/DME to runway 25. That length and width matter in winter: you can typically bring midsize, super-midsize and many large-cabin jets that cannot use Aspen under the 95 ft wingspan rule. The airport notes cold-temperature operations and high unmarked terrain in all quadrants; night operations are discouraged for pilots unfamiliar with the field.
Attendance is 0600–2100 local. When the control tower is closed, clearance delivery comes from Denver Center. Landing fees apply for general aviation aircraft at or above 12,500 lb. For international arrivals, AirNav states regular CBP office hours Thursday–Monday 0900–1700, with after-hours service available and a three-hour advance notice required. Build that notice into any inbound from Canada, Mexico or the Caribbean.
Signature Aviation: the only FBO
Signature Aviation is the sole FBO at EGE (871 Cooley Mesa Road, Gypsum). Published hours are 0600–2100 local, with call-out available on request. Signature lists on-site customs assistance, heated hangar space for day use, deicing, conference rooms and crew amenities. Because there is only one FBO, ramp and hangar slots tighten in peak ski weeks. Have your operator reserve the FBO early—especially for Thanksgiving week, Christmas–New Year’s and Presidents’ Day.
Commercial airline traffic also rises in winter. Local reporting on EGE’s 2026–27 airline schedule describes added frequencies, including more United flights from Denver. A busier airline ramp means more competition for deice pads and slots on storm days. Private operators still use the Signature side, but plan extra ground time when weather is working the valley.
Alternates: Aspen (ASE) and Rifle (RIL)
| Airport | Code | Longest runway | Elevation | FBO | Best use for Vail/Beaver Creek |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Eagle County Regional | EGE | 9,000 × 150 ft | 6,547 ft | Signature Aviation (only) | Default for Vail and Beaver Creek |
| Aspen/Pitkin County | ASE | 8,006 × 100 ft | 7,838 ft | Atlantic Aviation | Aspen Snowmass stays; not the Vail default |
| Rifle Garfield County | RIL | 7,000 × 100 ft | 5,537 ft | Atlantic Aviation (Vantage opening Dec 2026) | Weather alternate; longer drive to Vail |
Sources: AirNav airport records (FAA data effective October 29, 2026). Driving times vary with snow and traffic.
Aspen (ASE) is about 25 nm southeast of EGE by air but a longer mountain drive to Vail. AirNav confirms the airport is closed 2300–0700, restricts wingspans to a maximum of 95 ft, and sits at nearly 7,838 ft—performance and weather both bite harder than at EGE. ASE is the right field when you are staying in Aspen Snowmass; see our Aspen ski season guide. For Vail or Beaver Creek, EGE is almost always the better primary.
Rifle (RIL) is about 38 nm west of EGE, with a 7,000 × 100 ft runway at 5,537 ft and continuous attendance. Atlantic Aviation is the current FBO; AirNav notes Vantage Aviation as opening in December 2026. Rifle is a common weather alternate when EGE or ASE is down, but the drive to Vail Village is substantially longer than from EGE. Confirm ground transport before you divert.
Other Colorado fields (Denver Centennial, Rocky Mountain Metropolitan, Grand Junction) can work as deep backups for large groups or when the mountain airports are closed by weather, at the cost of a long drive or a second hop.
Winter operations and timing
- Book peak weeks early. Thanksgiving (November 26), Christmas–New Year’s, and Presidents’ Day week fill Signature’s ramp and the best aircraft first.
- Leave margin for weather. High terrain, cold temperatures and mountain wave can delay or divert arrivals. Build a Rifle or Denver backup into the plan when forecasts look soft.
- Respect the FBO clock. Signature’s published day is 0600–2100; after-hours call-outs are possible but should be arranged in advance, not assumed.
- International arrivals need CBP notice. Three hours’ advance notice is the published requirement at EGE; tell us if you are inbound from outside the U.S.
- Ski bags and boots. Winter luggage is bulky. Tell us passenger count, bag count and any oversized gear so the operator confirms the right cabin and hold.
For multi-mountain trips, EGE also pairs well with a hop to Jackson Hole or a later Aspen stay—watching ASE’s April 4–November 19, 2027 runway closure if your trip runs late into spring.
Holiday weeks deserve a special note. Christmas through New Year’s is when EGE’s Signature ramp, deice trucks and hotel inventory in Vail and Beaver Creek all peak together. Operators that can overnight the aircraft on the mountain often price differently from those that must ferry out the same night. Tell us whether you want the jet to stay or release—it changes the quote structure even when the airborne hours look similar.
How far is EGE from common departure cities?
| From | To EGE (great circle) | Typical mission |
|---|---|---|
| New York (Teterboro, TEB) | About 1,520 nm | Super-midsize / large cabin, often nonstop |
| Westchester (HPN) | About 1,535 nm | Same band as TEB |
| Chicago (PWK/MDW area) | About 950 nm | Midsize and up |
| Dallas (DAL/ADS) | About 700 nm | Light and midsize work well |
| Los Angeles (VNY) | About 650 nm | Light and midsize; easy day trip |
| Miami / South Florida (OPF) | About 1,600 nm | Super-midsize / large cabin |
| San Francisco (SQL/SFO area) | About 780 nm | Midsize and up |
Great-circle distances are approximate from OurAirports coordinates. Winter winds, payload and runway performance change the real aircraft choice. The operator confirms the trip.

Ground transport from EGE is part of the plan, not an afterthought. In peak weeks, black-car and SUV inventory for Vail Village, Lionshead and Beaver Creek books out alongside the FBO. Tell us your lodging so the driver meets the Signature ramp rather than a commercial curb. If you are splitting time between Vail and Beaver Creek, one airport still covers both—EGE—without an ASE diversion.
Choosing aircraft for EGE in winter
Winter density altitude, payload and ski bags often push travelers up one cabin class from a summer trip of the same length. A light jet that works Los Angeles–Eagle County with two passengers may struggle with six people, boots and bags on a cold day. Midsize and super-midsize cabins are the workhorses for New York– and Florida–to–Vail missions; large-cabin jets remain practical into EGE when the group size or range requires them. Aspen’s wingspan and night curfew make many of those same large aircraft a non-starter at ASE—another reason EGE stays the default for Vail and Beaver Creek.
Operators will run the numbers for your exact date, temperature assumption and runway condition. We do not substitute a brochure range for a real trip analysis. When you send passenger count, bags and preferred departure time, we match aircraft that have already been accepted into EGE under similar winter conditions.
If your trip includes both Vail and Aspen Snowmass, many itineraries land at EGE for the Vail/Beaver Creek days, then reposition or fly a short hop into ASE only when the Aspen stay begins—watching ASE’s night closure and wingspan limit. For Jackson Hole after Vail, see our Jackson Hole ski season guide.
How to plan the trip with Haute Jets
- Send dates, passenger count, bags, home airport and whether you are staying in Vail, Beaver Creek or both.
- We compare aircraft from Wyvern- and ARGUS-rated operators and check EGE FBO availability for your arrival window.
- We will flag CBP notice needs on international legs and suggest ASE or RIL only when they actually fit the itinerary.
- We do not publish made-up charter prices. A quote depends on aircraft, routing, dates and how long the jet waits. For general context see how much it costs to charter a private jet in 2026.

FAQs
When does Vail open for the 2026–27 season?
Vail Resorts schedules Vail Mountain to open Friday, November 13, 2026, and Beaver Creek to open Wednesday, November 25, 2026, subject to weather and conditions.
Which airport should I use for a private jet to Vail?
Eagle County Regional (EGE) in Gypsum is the usual private jet airport for Vail and Beaver Creek. It has a 9,000 ft runway and Signature Aviation as the only FBO. Aspen (ASE) is better for Aspen Snowmass stays; Rifle (RIL) is a common weather alternate.
Is there more than one FBO at Eagle County?
No. Signature Aviation is the only FBO at EGE. Hours are published as 0600–2100 local, with call-out available on request. Reserve early in peak ski weeks.
Can large-cabin jets land at EGE?
EGE’s 9,000 × 150 ft runway supports many midsize through large-cabin jets that cannot use Aspen under ASE’s 95 ft wingspan limit. The operator still confirms performance for your weight, temperature and runway conditions.
Do I need customs notice flying into EGE?
For international arrivals, AirNav lists a three-hour advance notice for CBP at EGE, with regular office hours Thursday–Monday 0900–1700 and after-hours service available. Tell us if your trip starts outside the United States.
How do I get a quote for a private jet to Vail?
Request a quote at https://www.hautejets.com/request-a-quote or call (800) 257-5661. Most quotes arrive within 60 minutes.
