Big Sky has no airport of its own, so a private jet trip to Big Sky Resort, the Yellowstone Club or a Big Sky home lands at Bozeman Yellowstone International Airport (BZN). Visit Big Sky calls BZN Montana’s busiest airport and puts it about an hour’s drive from Big Sky. This guide covers the 2026–27 ski season dates that drive demand, BZN’s runways and three FBOs, distances from major US cities and how to plan the transfer up Gallatin Canyon in winter.
Haute Jets is a private jet charter broker, not an operator. We arrange flights with Wyvern- and ARGUS-rated FAA Part 135 operators, with access to 3,500+ vetted aircraft. No jet cards, no membership fees. Most quotes arrive within 60 minutes.
When is the 2026–27 ski season at Big Sky?
Big Sky Resort opens for winter on Wednesday, November 25, 2026, the day before Thanksgiving. Daily operations run through April 11, 2027, with bonus weekends April 16–18 and April 23–25, conditions permitting. The resort’s own pass blackout dates are a good guide to the busiest stretches.

Which airport do private jets use for Big Sky?
Use Bozeman Yellowstone International (BZN / KBZN). Visit Big Sky says Big Sky sits off Montana Highway 191, about 45 miles south of Bozeman, and that the drive from the airport through Gallatin Canyon takes about an hour. The airport itself also describes BZN as the gateway that serves Big Sky.
West Yellowstone’s Yellowstone Airport (WYS) is about 50 miles from Big Sky, but Visit Big Sky lists its airline service as seasonal, May to October. For a winter ski trip, BZN is the practical choice, and it is where our Bozeman airport guide and New York to Yellowstone route point.

At 4,473 ft, BZN is a high-elevation airport. Elevation, cold-weather contamination and aircraft weight all feed into the operator’s takeoff and landing calculations, so the operator confirms performance for your jet and load.
BZN FBOs for private jets
The airport hosts three fixed-base operators on Wings Way in Belgrade. Your operator chooses the FBO, and we can request one if you have a preference.
| FBO | Address | What the airport says |

| Million Air Bozeman | 450 Wings Way, Belgrade, MT 59714 | The newest FBO at BZN, with a 300,000-gallon fuel farm and hangar space for aircraft up to a Global 7500 |

If you want the aircraft hangared overnight, or need deicing on departure, tell us when you book so the operator can arrange it with the FBO.

Distances are great-circle nautical miles calculated from OurAirports coordinates. Flight-plan distances are longer, and westbound winter headwinds add time and fuel.
From the West Coast, Texas or Chicago, BZN is well inside the published range of light and midsize jets. From New York, Boston or South Florida, the 1,600 to 1,900 nm leg is close to the published limit of smaller light jets once you add winter winds, skiers’ bags and reserves. A midsize or super-midsize jet gives more margin for a nonstop flight; our guide to how far private jets can fly compares published ranges by class. The operator confirms nonstop capability for your date and load.
Getting from BZN to Big Sky and the Yellowstone Club
The road to Big Sky follows Highway 191 south through Gallatin Canyon, a two-lane highway along the Gallatin River. Visit Big Sky says the drive takes about an hour, that winter road conditions can vary and that drivers should have appropriate winter tires. It recommends booking a rental car or private or public transportation well in advance.
The Yellowstone Club is a private community in Big Sky that spans 15,200 acres of private skiing, golf and amenities. Because it is a private club, confirm gate and arrival arrangements with the club or your host before you fly.
We can line up ground transportation to meet the aircraft at the FBO. Ask for a vehicle suited to snow and enough room for skis and bags.
Planning tips for a winter trip to Big Sky
- Book the holidays first. December 26–30, Martin Luther King Jr. weekend and Presidents’ Day weekend are the busiest periods. Aircraft and FBO services go early.
- Build in weather time. Snow can delay departures for deicing or affect the canyon drive. A flexible departure window helps on the way home.
- Count the bags. Skis, boots and winter clothing take space and weight. Tell us exactly what you are bringing so the operator can confirm baggage room and range.
- Mind late arrivals. BZN’s control tower closes from 12:30 a.m. to 5:30 a.m. local time. Flights can still operate when the tower is closed, but daytime arrivals make for an easier canyon drive.
- Crew rest counts. On a same-day turn, the crew’s Part 135 duty and rest limits apply. Our guide to Part 91 vs Part 135 explains the rules.
- Compare other ski trips. We also cover Jackson Hole, Aspen and Vail and Beaver Creek for 2026–27.
